Re: [EVDL] Silent Shadow motor experiment failed. Shaft drive 3.5
You can run low RPMs and not overheat any motor with an external blower... =

The bike is a VT700 with a 24 inch OD tire. 3.5 to one as measured on th=
e outside. Shaft drive. The Yale Forklift motor provides no fan cooli=
ng. Silly me I thought all motors had a fan inside to move air through.=
I'd love to tryforced cooling It might be easier than changing mo=
tors. I thought the series motors were good heat sinks. I have experi=
ence with ETEK motors as I melted one going up hills. I had changed my g=
ear ratio and it was too low but I had an 18 inch rear motorcycle tire.4=
.0 to one with the ETEK. So rpms were more.4.5 to one ratio with t=
he A89.I never had trouble with the A89 motor . It is now with a new own=
er at 72v and really hauls A$$. No over heating. I'm running Silent S=
hadow at 120vdc 400 amps but didn't use any where near that to smoke the mo=
tor. I've seen White Zombie and Killacycle run high volts and amps with =
my ratio. I though with the 8 inch motor and 120volts I might get away w=
ith my ratio. I suspect an ADC 8 inch would be perfect with no cooling b=
ut that almost weighs twice what the Yale fork motor weighs.. Maybe the =
L or K 91's but maybe I'm asking too much.It seems to have plenty of pow=
er just not enough cooling. Are there motors that can run low rpms an=
d not overheat. Lawrence Rhodes..
