Re: [EVDL] Silent Shadow motor experiment failed. Shaft drive 3.5

The bike is a VT700 with a 24 inch OD tire. 3.5 to one as measured on th=
e =

outside. Shaft drive. The Yale Forklift motor provides no fan cooling=
. Silly =

me I thought all motors had a fan inside to move air through. I'd love t=
o =

tryforced cooling It might be easier than changing motors. I thoug=
ht the =

series motors were good heat sinks. I have experience with ETEK motors a=
s I =

melted one going up hills. I had changed my gear ratio and it was too lo=
w but I =

had an 18 inch rear motorcycle tire.4.0 to one with the ETEK. So r=
pms were =

more.4.5 to one ratio with the A89.I never had trouble with the A89 m=
otor . =

It is now with a new owner at 72v and really hauls A$$. No over heating.=
I'm =

running Silent Shadow at 120vdc 400 amps but didn't use any where near that=
to =

smoke the motor. I've seen White Zombie and Killacycle run high volts an=
d amps =

with my ratio. I though with the 8 inch motor and 120volts I might get a=
way =

with my ratio. I suspect an ADC 8 inch would be perfect with no cooling =
but =

that almost weighs twice what the Yale fork motor weighs.. Maybe the L o=
r K =

91's but maybe I'm asking too much.It seems to have plenty of power just=
not =

enough cooling. Are there motors that can run low rpms and not overhe=
at. =

You can run low RPMs and not overheat any motor with an external blower... =

OK. Let's try a fan. I was thinking oftaking a used vac nozzel and=
shaping it =

to the motor to draw air through. Then cover all the holes in the motor =
with =

plates leaving one for in and one for out. What kind of fan will do? =
I'm =

running 120vdc. What small fan will give me the flow, not take too many =
amps =

and run on 120vdc? Do I suck through or blow through? Lawrence Rhodes=

>>PS: I'd be surprised if you can get 350 CFM through 3" hoses without a

The 350 was off the cuff, I will go look at the box.

At any rate, the more air movement the better, for anything that makes heat.

Mark.

"Also, I am using a marine in line bilge blower, 12 volt,350cfm, 3" in 3"
out. "
I hope it is quieter than the 160 cfm bilge blower I purchased. I quit
using it to ventilate a battery box because it was so loud. Much louder
than a 250 cfm axial fan I use.

Re: [EVDL] Silent Shadow motor experiment failed. Shaft drive 3.5

Agreed,
What I like about the low voltage stuff is most of it is easily fed lower
voltage and run variable speed. Only run it fast when needed. That is my
goal.

Sincerely,
Mark Grasser
