That may be true in an industrial setting, but I don't know of anyone using
nicads in an EV that would agree with that assessment. If done right,
nicads can make for a very low maintenance EV.

That's about the life of a good golf car battery.

I don't want to generate controversy or hard feelings, but I'd like to point
out that Bob Aronson has been promoting his "tri polar lead cobalt"
batteries for over 30 years, and AFAIK has never demonstrated any real
advantage attributable to the cobalt doping. (The intercell connections at
the bottom of his 1970s prototypes may have had some small effect as far as
creating convection currents to circulate electrolyte, however.)

Nor has he ever, to my knowledge, successfully made them into a real
commercial product. I read about 10 years ago that he was negotiating with
a Chinese battery company to produce them. But so far my local battery
jobber doesn't seem to have the price lists. Are they actually available?
Do you know of any impartial tests?

Aronson has also claimed to be tinkering with fuel cell vehicles for at
least as long. The bogus "Voltair" was supposed to have a fuel cell range
extender, but despite press from Aronson's snow job on Popular Science Mag
(which should have been more skeptical) AFAIK the car never got past the
clay model stage. Aronson's latest buzz in that arena is the "Apollo" fuel
cell, which comes (or at least at one time did) complete with conspiracy
theories. But I digress.

Don't get me wrong, I wish Aronson well, but I still don't see that he (or
any one else) has demonstrated any real advantage to cobalt-doped lead
batteries. Maybe I've missed something. But I also notice that you're not
using Aronson's "tri polar" batteries any more, either. ;-)
