Has anyone attempted to make an older Nissan Leaf run on a lead-acid battery pack? It is a fun silly experiment that I have had in mind. The diminished range would not be a concern for me.
I am curious if the car would run by simply connecting a lead-acid battery pack of the same/close voltage or if it is a lot more complicated than that and the CAN bus system would reject it.
Getting the factory charging system to work would most likely be a no-go or way beyond my know-how, unless there is some kind of an optimizing module that could be installed between the charger and the battery. It would probably be easier to just use a new standalone charger and disable the factory charging and regen system.
Thank you for any input.
