I am just beginning the design of my build. Can anyone share the pros/cons of going direct drive? I am planning on using a WarP 9 motor. The rear differential's axle ratio is 3.545/1. Most of the time I plan to drive around town with some limited highway driving.

I use direct drive - the logic is
a gearbox is a speed reducing and torque increasing device
With a Robin and a 9 inch motor you will be able to spin the wheels in top gear
Which makes the gearbox completely unnecessary!
Also without the gearbox you should try and put the motor where the gearbox would normally live
This frees up the whole engine bay for batteries

You would need a gearbox if you were putting a small motor into a large car
