Can you tell if the sense resistor element is just copper that has been laser trimmed, or as some (JR) have suggested, a piece of alloy that has been welded into position?

Could U1 be an isolation chip, such as the Si8642 used on the cell monitoring boards?

I recently looked at my Model S current shunt and got to thinking that maybe it could be used. I guess not a lot ever happened with this? BTW, the mystery chip is IHM-A-1500 and it's a current sensing chip from the same impossible to spell company that makes the IVT current sensors that so many of us use.
