In doing a little bit of research on this site, I'm curious why I'm not seeing too many people using the TI Piccolo based Launch products, such as the product below.

It seems this ESC product is good for sensorless field oriented control (FOC) with PWM outputs at up to 60kHz carrier switching frequency, has current sensing inputs, voltage sensing inputs, has CAN input, etc., has rapid prototyping software already available from TI, and is only $25. Albeit, from the simple diagram in the second link above one would need a daughter card (BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM) to drive the 3-phase IGBTs, at a cost of about $85.

I recognize that I'm very young with regards to electric/hybrid vehicles, but am I missing something that these cannot do?

I used one of those Launchpad boards using the F28069M in my last job - Was using it for digital power supply development, but it's a very capable chip.

If people designing motor controllers aren't using it, it's probably because they're familiar with other manufacturer's tools instead :) If I was designing a motor controller from scratch, I'd lean towards it due to past experience...

I thought about it with my motorcycle for a while. I even designed an entire controller around it but the reality came down to economics and safety. I wanted to ride my bike sooner and not be the test dummy while riding it.(mildly safer if you car cuts out on the highway)
Here was some links to the design I was working on. https://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1052151

Now if I was to pick something to move forward with it would be the axiom project. It's development has come a long way from the amazing Esk8 controller it was. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=89056&start=250

Good luck!
