Hi All, I own 2006 Ford Bantam (I believe it is known as a Ford Courier half ton in Brazil and some other countries) half ton utility vehicle, commonly called a "Bakkie" in South Africa.
I intend to convert this vehicle into an EV, it is currently a 1.3i, FWD. I intend to keep the current gearbox and drive train, just swap out the motor and the rest of the pollution contributing, gas guzzling, environmentally not so friendly stuff, with quiet and clean electric motor, probably DC.
However, i also intend to give this Bantam a bit of a fighting edge, I want to run as close to 144v as possible with Amps to spare, I want my Bantam to give the wanna be road racers in my town a surprise and a serious run for their money, while still having an efficient commuter to use daily. Hee, hee, gonna be fun.
Still sourcing a lot of the needed bits and pieces (like everything), so there may not be much in this thread yet, but I am looking forward to all of the suggestions, comments, etc, that will start to flow in (I hope).
Cheers for now,
JonB
(PS: Forgot to mention, I am not an engineer, but I know my way around a car and its components, so no prob there, I do not have a workshop, but make a plan when needed, so no prob there, BUT I buy spares in SA Rands!!!, now there is a problem, EV spares not freely available in South Africa, expensive if they are, any suggestions)
