Trying to understand the BMS

hi,
I am making my plans and I wonder how BMS are working

lets say I purchase these miniBMS at $12.50
http://currentevtech.com/Battery-Management/Mini-BMS/MiniBMS-Cell-Module-p157.html

1. Install 1 on every cell in series
2. ????

I install them on each cell and what are they going to do

they will cutoff the battery below a certain voltage?
When charging, will they cutoff at a maximum voltage?

Or this unit needs to be connected to a main board?
I cannot find videos on how properly install them

thanks

I'll make a video after Wednesday when I get mine.

I believe they let the juice go till the battery gets to it "full" voltage, then it starts shunting or bypassing current. Once all of them are fully charged, it sends a signal down the looped wire (between every BMS module) to shut the charger off.

This is only a guess... I bought one cell balancer from ???? it has red and green LEDs that show you whats going on, but I didn't trust it to shut off my charger- I could be wrong. At least I know the MINI BMS will.

(Don't yell at me, I know the Mini BMS guy is gonna see this)

Also, since I only had the one BMS module from ???? I used it on my one battery I bought before I bought my set. It had charged faster than the rest, (I had wired them in parallel for almost a week and tried to charge them) making me wonder if the other batteries are used. Now, I have that battery plus one other charging faster than the rest, and once they break past 3.6 or so, they go fast to overcharged. So I'm done driving till my MINI BMS's show.

The one module by itself did drain off the excess voltage, but its not a fast function. I had to turn the charger off, and it took a while before the red LED turned off.

Hi !
I would suggest you both read the installation instruction given in the homepage of Mini BMS.
Link can be found in the sponsor field on the right ----->

Then there is also a pretty large thread here at the Forum that pretty much explains everything a couple of times.

Best Regards

What he said... :D:D:D

Or, use the link in my signature below.

I always encourage potential customers to study the user guide and watch YouTube video, before making a purchase....and then again before installation :)
THanks! I will be ussing a 16s configuration
this is my setup but I need to plug my BMS and I do not know how

Looks like those are cylindrical cells like Headway, right?

In this case, you should not use distributed BMS modules.

The best fit for you is a single 16 cell Centralized Master BMS board, here is the direct link

http://minibms.mybigcommerce.com/products/MiniBMS-16-cell-Master-Board.html

In the product support section you will find the user guide for Centralized MiniBMS, which has wiring diagrams for charger and throttle controls.

Throttle control can be optional, if you can trust yourself to get off the road when buzzer alerts start, indicating low battery.

Charger control may require SSR AC relay, if your charger doesn't have BMS Enable input. I have those relays at the Web store as well.

Hope this helps
