The sun shone for the third round of the TTXGP UK Championship in Pembrey, South Wales and tension in the paddock was high in the build up to the race. So after lunch, the final checks on the bikes were made and the riders mounted their machines and queued up to take to the track for the grid.
The bikes lined up on the grid and as the lights went green, both Mavizen machines of Pete Ward (Electric Hussar with Kelly KDHE controller) and Annie Seel (Morris Motorcycles Racing Team also with Kelly KDHE controller ) shot off the line and got into the first corner in first and second place, respectively. Unfortunately, Annie soon lost out to the Team Agni bikes and ManTTX, and then Kingston University later in the lap.

Pete Ward held onto the lead ahead of Jenny Tinmouth (Team Agni #77), James McBride (ManTTX Racing with Kelly KDH12601B controller) and Rob Moon (Team Agni #69However, James' leading form all weekend soon came into play and he took the lead from Pete and settled into a very fast pace, gapping the field.

Jenny Tinmouth pushed Pete Ward for several laps and looked to pass him, but had to get out of it as there were waved yellows for an incident involving the MRB Racing bike of Russ Licence who crashed mid-corner, but is uninjured. Jenny and Pete continued to dice and switched places a couple of times before she eventually got the better of him and set after the lead.

Meanwhile, Rob Moon had stormed from the back of the grid to latch onto the battle and began dicing with Pete for the final spot on the podium. Rob passed Pete into the first corner but Pete managed to capitalise on his performance advantage out of corners to get back into third and settled down to chase Jenny again and pull out a lead on Rob. Pete did begin to catch Jenny towards the end of the race and was confident that had the race been a couple of laps longer he'd have been able to race with her again.

Jenny started to catch James, and then the ManTTX bike started to slow. Nobody could believe the team's bad luck after things were looking so much better for them after their endless gremlins at Anglesey and Snetterton. James clearly knew something was up, signalling to the team on the start/finish straight and managed to nurse it home in fourth position. James took the Green Insurance Award for the fastest lap of 1:08:60 but this is obviously of little consolation after looking so strong for the win all weekend.

Adam Palfreman on Kingston University's entry had a lonely race in fifth, but is looking increasingly confident and the team hope to make even more changes in time for the next round to help him try and mix it with the lead pack. Harry Hardi's weekend didn't get any better with the team having to detune the bike to ensure he finished which really hindered his chances of challenging for a higher position. The Tork India machine with Darryl Harrison riding was also heavily turned down to try and improve reliability, but Darryl was clearly frustrated at not having the power the bike was designed for and managed in the previous two rounds.

The race has been the most varied and closest yet, so be sure to catch it on ESPN UK (check www.egrandprix.com/listings for schedules). The final of the TTXGP UK Championship at Brands Hatch on 2-3 October is really hotting up to be a good race.

A fantastic race indeed, TV coverage on Sky ESPN to follow, also at www.egrandprix.tv.

1st and 3rd place (Jenny and Rob of team Agni) actually used Brusa controllers not Kelly. The Mavizen TTX02's were faster off the line and had better top speed however using the Kelly's.

James Mcbride ran a great race, holding a clear lead until his bike ran out of juice in the penultimate lap. This was due to the track organisers bringing the race forwards 30 mins to try and get the days racing done before the predicted thunderstorm hit.
A great day's electric racing..
