Hi
Been looking for solutions to using an EV or Hybrid car battery system as backup when grid goes down, or just powering the house when rates are too high. Getting a solar installation but battery technology is just still too high to invest in currently. Every solar company I've dealt with just say use the utility as the battery, but that solution stops working if the grid goes down. Of course this is by design for safety but also a way to keep you connected to them.
There are different projects to build inverters, including ones by Electric Motor Werks(EMW Juicebox). They tell me that they think their products could do this, but there is no software available as opensource or sale currently.
Does anyone know of any turnkey solutions or projects not requiring a lot of work that would probably cause the utility to disconnect me that might work?
I know that Toyota w/ Densho and Nissan w/ Nichico in Japan and w/ PowerStream in Canada are testing V2H/V2G systems in homes currently, but those aren't for sale in US still.
