Hi Guys,

I have a question regarding the vacuum brake pump for my BMW 120i EV conversion. The old ICE had a pully that ran the pump but i've put in a electric pump from here: http://www.evworks.com.au/vacuum-pump-12v-4.5a-65

It turns on when the ignition starts from a relay. The mechanic said to not drive the pump without a mercury switch to turn off the pump when it reaches maximum pressure. As this might implode the diaphragm.

I just want to know if I can run it without this switch thing. I don't mind if the pump is always running.

Attached is a photo of the pump setup.

A mercury switch is going to do diddly squat.

You need a Vacuum, switch. I would not want that pump running all the time, not only is it a waste of battery power the pump is not good for 100% duty cycle.

Look up Aeroflow AF49-2011.

Thanks - yeah looks like there is one installed in the line that looks like the one you suggested but it's brass.

I guess I'll wire that up then !
