Hi all , has anyone got ant thought of converting a beetle to electric , would the chassis be strong enough ? As there no power assistance i'm thinking it would be simpler than other cars .
The chassis is definitely strong enough. They have that tube frame underneath that really lends itself to modification, too. The rear engine/transaxle configuration helps out too. The fact that the engine hangs off the trans (without any other mounts) makes motor mounting really easy.
This little YouTube video might impress those wanting to do a conversion to an old beetle: http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=4_lSxhTatUU
You can hear the whine from the Curtis controller when he moves about.
Good video too, makes me want to get my project complete.
