Which connectors do you use for 12V?

Hi all,

looking for suitable connectors for 12 V applications in a car, meaning all connections in a conversion that you need to build from scratch or replace old connections.

I see some different brands available on the market for example Deutsch, Amphenol, AMP...

I am looking for quality rather than cheap, there is nothing worse than bad electrical connections.
I know professional crimping tools are quite pricey, but I am willing to spend some extra money.
Of course within 12 V there is different applications: inside the car vs outside the car (water ingress), different current requirements. So I assume there is not the "one" series of connectors that suits all needs.

Which connectors (and tools) do you use and why?

TE ampseal connectors are popular for their waterproofing and TE is a legit, well respected company.

Molex is good when water/weatherproofing is not critical.
Cheap standard easy to do the win goes to molex. If you need IP 67 or better, I favor amphenol.

I did some more research, Deutsch connectors are also often recommended. As Amphenol has the same connector system, I think I will go with them for any connections that need to be IP 67.

Regarding Molex, which connector system/family are you referring to? There is too many different connectors...

Indeed! It's really annoying that everyone has something different...

Right... but I'm sure that Bintang 5 is asking which connector system/family within the Molex product lines were recommended by reiderM and piorsko, because even that one brand has many different an incompatible connector designs.
Thank you Brian, yes I was asking about the Molex connectors.
As for the Deutsch ones, there is the DT Series which is often recommended. Amphenol has the AT Series which is apparently interchangable with the Deutsch DT and is a bit cheaper, yet I found the Amphenol ones harder to come by.

Still confused which connectors to use inside the cabin / where waterproof is not needed...
Molex probably, but which series?
Molex mini-fit has always treated me well, easy to pin and stays together well.

If the op had specified he was familiar with molex I would have specified a sub group. Generally when one looks up connectors on a common DIY vendor site there is one style that vendor favors typically with a .093 pin and some sort of housing aka known to me as a molex standard. Some of them fit and interchange with with each other like 2 ea 3 pin male into a 6 pin female. Those typical vendors generally give you mating connector numbers or styles and sometimes interchanges, but I dunno , I was a commercial buyer for large organizations and not a enkineer
