Coming back to the topic at hand, I am also in the design phase of a Chevy Volt pack split in 2. And I am considering the following:
- 2 parallel strings 48S3P
- each string with contactor
- string contactors commanded by charger&BMS
- Charge Cycle - contactors closed, single charger for both strings
- BMS command - stop charge & open contactors when first cell reaches top charge setting
- Balancing cycle - both contactors open.
