Will this motor work for a conversion?

I'm looking around for a motor to put into a planned conversion of a 1989 ford ranger. I've been perusing craigslist for electric motors and I'm having trouble understanding what would actually work. I found an AC motor I think would work out fine for my build shown in the attached pic.

If the pic doesn't load correctly, the label states:
CAT NO.: M4106T
SPEC.:07H281X144H1
HP: 20
RPM: 3450
Volts: 205-230/460
Amps: 47-46/23
PF: 90

Is this too little or too much of a motor? I really don't know!

What should I look for on the labels of these motors? Because can't these things take more volts/amps than what is labelled?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

That is a big industrial motor. They're really not what you want. Look up an ac-50 or an OEM EV motor to get an idea of what to look for.

That's a big motor, about the size of my 11" Kostov. Mizlplix used one in his hotrod but rewound it for lower voltage. If running a 600 volt battery pack doesn't bother you, then being able to rip your drive train apart at will might. Finding a controller other than homemade might be hard.

20HP on a motorcycle is barely adequate, let alone on a Ford Ranger pickup truck.

There's a ton of electric cars now being parted out, even by backyard disassemblers. I'd go with a motor out of one of those, perhaps even an entire drive unit.

I hope you're prepared to spend some money. The motor is actually a small part of the budget, so you might as well get one sized for your vehicle.

Lots of conversions out there for you to use as a reference in terms of specs and performance. Is there a 20HP Ranger and how does it do, for starters?
