Im looking for a good used adapter plate for the early MK1 VW Rabbit, Cabriolet, Golf and GTI. I have purchased a 1991 VW Cabriolet which I am going to convert. The motor is running but it is shot and the trans needs a new bearing and power steering pump leaks. Other than those things it is a great candidate for an Electric Conversion. Im going to install an AC-50 motor and controller. The controller will be a 1238 7102 96v 650amp controller. Need the adapter. I mostly need right now the adapter plate. Not really wanting to buy that new if I can help it.

Well don't that beat all. I purchased a 91 Cabriolet to convert to electric and now there are no adapter plates available to purchase that will fit those transmissions. Guess I'll have to sell the vehicle and just work on my Bug and Bus and Buggy.

EVWest sells them for CanEV as CanEV is the only one currently that makes them for conversions. EVWest said that CanEV was going to revamp their site and it would take 12 weeks to get back into production and that was over 5 months ago and today they still have no time frame to continue making them. So basically they are no longer making adapters.

...or even check with a local machinist (if your not that handy with metal work)

CAN Ev site has been down a while. I needed a heater that i was told can not be had from them anymore by a third party vendor. I emailed CAN EV and asked and they had them in stock and shipped me one.

Call CanEV directly, and ask for a delivery date if you were to put an order in today. All the time you've wasted vs calling them and having them build one is beyond weird, imo.

Everybody and his dog is fantasizing about EV conversions and is hoarding parts even if they can never build one, so inventory at distributors is zero for many items. That does not mean "they are no longer making adapters." Until you talk directly to them, your summary can damage their business permanently in a visible place like this forum.

Call them directly, pay for the order for a build if they are available with a lead time, then come back here and report your findings so people here can plan their builds accordingly.

If canEV goes out of their way to file a lawsuit in another country over libel and damages over what some random person said on a forum, that would be hilarious. It's funny that you bring that up like a realistic possibility.

For the record, I would like to just say that nobody should be buying from canEV, because their president Todd Maliteare has been involved in numerous embezzlement schemes, and has recently been arrested for trafficking black market organs.

You were asked to resolve an ambiguity you created.

You didn't. Instead, you're digging in with a clear axe to grind.

Perhaps they're your competitor?

Tell us if the plate can or cannot be ordered direct from CanEV, after talking to them.
