I own an Accord EX V6, and am researching what is needed for EV conversion. The current idea I have, is to find a single motor with performance and power requirements that are within a usable range, and attempt to have it bolted in where the current J30A1 V6 engine is, so as to use the existing drivetrain. Afterwards, all unnecessary components related to the old combustion engine would be removed, to free up weight for batteries.
The priorities of the project are to achieve similar or greater performance to the previous powertrain (not a high priority), maximize range as much as possible, emphasize modularity while holding driver and passenger safety above all else. The ability to apply the knowledge gained to other vehicles is also a high priority. If possible, i'd like to fabricate affordable EV conversion kits in the future.
The biggest problem I have, aside from funding, is a lack of readily-available information. Most of the forums related to my make and model of car are of the....*cough*ricer*cough* variety. They're mainly concerned with making their cars louder, and making them resemble more expensive sports cars.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate any tips or scraps of information on decent manufacturers of motors, batteries and the like.
Don't worry about pointing out expensive parts. I just need to know what's available, and where to find out more about it.
I'm also open to speculation and discussing theory, so fire away.
