What electric brake booster / servo to use (cost question)?

Hi,

I am converting some systems in preparation for adding electric drive power to the car later. Or maybe never. Who knows. Anyway, I looked at electric power steering. Via Testa ( €500,- via local breakers) to Toyota Prius (€ 300,- at local breakers) I ended up buying an Opel Tigra / Corsa steering column with controller for € 80,- including shipping from a less local but still relatively local yard. Modification is in de making. € 20,- on ebay even bought me a controller thingy that makes the power assist adjustable, and if I can reverse engineer that thingy and add it to an Arduino I can even make the assist speed-related. Marvelous. Onto the next chapter.

Onto the plans for an iBooster. Or similar. I don't want to simply add a vacum pump and leave the original servo in place. I would like to go electric (and may be even speed related?) So the game begins again, but I have not been able to find a good route, yet. I can get Tesla iBoosters here for a lot of money, I read somewhere they also came in Hondas but I don't know which ones and I do know the European deliveries / specs differed from the US ones. And I live in the Netherlands, which is still Europe last time I checked.

So, if you can point me towards more cost effective options for the electronic brake assist, please do. I don't mind tinkering (I already drew up a concept of using an Opel power steerin booster to assist the brakes), but when it comes to brakes a solid and proven concept is probably a better place to start then just having crazy ideas.

Cheers,

Hugo

Thanks, that is indeed the video that sparked my plans. But on ebay, Honda iboosters are few and far between, the Tesla ones are going for hundreds of bucks. I don't mind spending, I do look for other options like I did on the steering.

Cheers,

BTW, I figured out several Hondas, like the CR-Vs, got vacum boosters in Europe but iBooster like set-ups in de US. I just found a topic elsewhere someone bought a CR-V iBooster for 80 bucks US, that's a better deal than the € 400,- plus ones I find on e-bay in Europe.
