Just got an email from Brusa and OMG their prices are not just crazy they are insane!!!

DMC534: 39'800 USD
ASM8.24.10: 16'900 USD
BSC623-12V: 22'000 USD

They have to be out of their mind!!

Their explanation of this:

We know the prices are quite high but because of the low volume we have to amortize the development costs over the component prices.

You've got to be kidding right, make the first time adaptors pay for the development of a product!? Im not a big fan of DC systems but if AC is ever going to take off the makers of the components have to lower their cost or they will never sell a damn thing! I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a product that is new that I believe in but I wont alone pay for the development cost of every thing! this is what investors are for.

Sorry I just had to vent!

Before I Thought I could get the motors for about 4,000$ and the drive for about the same.

If anything i would just buy one of each, and reverse eng the things are start my own company.... selling thing for a 1/4 of the price Brusa does i could pay of in no time flat!!

Lol any one on board! lol

Brusa is a good charger but it is a no brainer on the price. If you need a charger for your lithium there are plenty of other choices that will work for you and not fully break the bank. There are others that are almost as expensive that folks do buy. So it is mostly a personal preference. Many with MONEY to burn will choose the high end stuff. Believe me there are plenty. I won't but then again I did not with the lottery either. Once I win I may go buy one just to say I have the best. NOT :)

I told you so :)

But I seriously doubt the AC motor/inverter would be less costly than an alternator and cranking motor.
You may be able to find less costly AC drives. But it will still be an expensive system for a generator.

HOLY SMOKES!

I knew they were high, but I had no idea they were THAT expensive. 17K for their motor/controller setup? That's ridiculous. Plus you still need to buy the DC/DC and Charger? Yeah, um, no.

That's just ridiculous. And you're right. If they sold it for 1/2 that, they'd probably sell a few of them and make their money back. I'm sure at the rate they're selling them for, they're not going to make their money back on their R&D. By the time they would have, other BETTER systems will already be out.

This is what you call I really only want to sell to OEM's but if you pay the R&D I will sell to you too.

They want to sell out and retire. They don't want a business. But at those prices they won't be attracting too many OEM's either. Oh well. Another one bites the dust. Too bad too because they are good.

At least they did make stuff instead of just saying they will.

gottdi hit it on the head. They are all aiming for OEM contracts, which are much more profitable and overall an easier dollar to make if you get the contract than dealing with individuals like us. But I think that this is shortsighted business. The conversion market isn't going away. The first company like them to figure out a business model for converters is going to rake in the dough.
